James Benson has studied various forms of Chinese (Wushu) and Japanese (Bujutsu) since 1966.

Most notably, Black Tiger Boxing, Xinyiquan, Bajiquan and Tongbeiquan of the Ma family tradition.

Wu and Li family Yiquan and Baquazhang of the Ma and Sun families.

Mr. Benson has also trained with various instructors of Oyama Karate (orthodox), studied as a member of Hombu within  Nippon Shorinji Kempo (Tadotsu, Kagawa Ken) and is a direct student of Yagyu Family Bugei (Nara Ken).

As an active security escort and student of Rinzai, Mr. Benson was given the Bugo (fighting name) of “Byakkoseiganryu”. Byakkoseiganryu translates from Japanese into English as: “White Tiger Blue Eyed Dragon”. This Bugo prompted the name of Ryukoseishin (Spirit of the Dragon and Tiger).

Ryokoseishin Goshinjutsu was in-turn founded and created in 1991 by James Benson while living in Zentsuji, (birthplace of Kukai) Kagawa Ken, Japan.

Ryukoseishin Goshinjutsu consists of several sub elements:

·         Black Tiger Boxing
The powerful movements of the Ma Family Black Tiger School as taught to James Benson as a first generation direct student of Dr. Li Ahn Wai of Xinjiang.

  • Six Harmony Eight Ultimate Method
An aggressive, no nonsense, brutally effective method of close quarter combat developed by Mr. Benson as direct result specific to his 40+ years of training in Xinyi, Baji and Tongbei.

  • Natural Power Fist
This method draws upon Mr. Benson’s exposure to Zen (Chan) and uses relaxed yet explosive movement.

·         Sixty Four Treasure Baguazhang
Based upon the martial arts of the Ma / Sun Families and the I-Ching. This is the only Taoist method taught within the Bugeikan.

·         Yagyukebujutsu
R
esearch dedicated to the family forms of combat developed by the original inhabitants of the Setouchi Chiho and Yamato Basin. Additional research revolves around the Nakatomi and Fujiwara clans of Nara and Kyoto. Many original elements (including combat mind set) of these methods were later “re tooled” and marketed to the general public as either Ryuha or Atarashii / Shin (new) schools of organized training such as the famous Yagyu Shinkage Ryu.

Ryukoseishin Sogo Bujutsu is taught privately in both the United States and Japan. A letter of introduction and an interview are prerequisite for all course of study.
